Amritsar, May 20: The unity between factions of two major Akali stalwarts Parkash Singh Badal and Gurcharan Singh Tohra would altogether change the scenario of Parliamentary elections besides dealing a severe jolt to the ruling Congress in Punjab, SGPC chief Kirpal Singh Badungar said today. The unity between the two main Akali factions would certainly tilt the scales against the Congress which had earlier fished in the troubled waters taking advantage of the skirmishes between the two main Akali factions, he told reporters.
"The last assembly polls saw a vertical split in votes in favour of the Congress but the unity would make things altogether different", Badungar said.
Besides, the unity would strengthen BJP-Akali Dal alliance, he said adding that the BJP high command in Delhi was in an upbeat mood with the unity move.
He said Akali factions would contest the parliamentary polls on a single platform which would help the party grab maximum seats.
"If needed, I am ready to quit to strengthen the unity move. As a dedicated party soldier I am always ready to sacrifice anything for strengthening the party mass base", he said. Bureau Report
