New Delhi, May 01: Dismissing Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's charge that Congress' sole agenda was to unseat him and capture power, the party today said it was rather BJP which was making efforts to cling to power by any means. "On the one hand Prime Minister is seeking votes for the BJP and its allies and on the other he is saying that Congress' sole agenda is to unseat him and capture power. This is wrong as the party's main agenda is not the power but to oust an inefficient and corrupt government in the interest of the country", party spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters.
Terming the NDA as "an opportunistic alliance" only for the sake of power, he said it was ready to "adopt any means to continue in power at the Centre."
"There are no ideological similarities among NDA partners. They are united only for the sake of power and the last five years of governance has proved this", he said adding that "in the national interest, this government must go" whose tenure is marked by various scandals and dismal performance on every count.
Asked to comment on BJP leader Arun Jaitley's remark that Congress was day dreaming about getting majority, Sharma said "let us wait till may 13 and see whose dreams are shattered". Bureau Report
