Dhaka, Oct 13: A delegation of speakers of several state assemblies led by Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi met with leaders of left-leaning political parties in Bangladesh and discussed issues of bilateral interest. The leaders from the two countries discussed topics of mutual interest, which included the proposed inter-linking of rivers project in India, the issue of "pushing-in people from Bangladesh into India and bilateral trade, the daily Jugantor reported.
Speakers of the Tripura and West Bengal assemblies, among others, Joshi and some members of parliament were here to participate in the 49th conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
The conference was attended by nearly six hundred legislators from across the globe, but the country's main opposition Awami League stayed away citing "maltreatment" meted to them by ruling alliance headed by Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
