Lucknow, Feb 23: Denying allegations that BSP was against the upper castes, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today said her party would support any move to give reservation benefits to them. "The BSP is not against upper castes. We believe in social equality and for that we are in favour of reservation for upper castes too," she said addressing an election rally in Gauriganj. Alleging that her detractors have "declared me as anti-Thakur" after slapping of Pota on jailed Independent MLA Raja Bhaiya, Mayawati said: "We have fielded a Thakur candidate in this bye-election and I am asking Thakurs to vote for BSP." "Those who are condemning use of Pota against Raja Bhaiya had themselves taken action against the MLA and his father when they were in power," an official release here quoted the chief minister as saying. "Now they are making a hue and cry because a 'Dalit ki beti' has taken up cudgels against criminals," she added. Bureau Report
