Jodhpur, Sept 04: Rajasthan High Court has issued notices to the state government on a public interest
litigation (PIL) challenging the practice of camel sacrifice on Eid in Tonk.
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Anil Dev Singh and Justice K K Acharya, yesterday issued notices returnable on September 24 after hearing arguments on the public interest petition filed by Chanchal Mal Chordia of 'Prani Mitra Sansthan' and Sohan Mehta of 'Mahavir Kendra'.
Counsels of the petitioner pleaded before the court that former nawab of Tonk traditionally organises a ritual on Eid in which a camel is brutally sacrificed in the presence of a large gathering of people and in full knowledge of the district administration. The petition said though animal sacrifice was prohibited under the state's law, the practice was going on illegally in Tonk and should be stopped.
The court issued notices to former nawab of Tonk besides the collector and superintendent of police of Tonk district. Bureau Report
