Jaipur, Dec 07: Tension prevailed in Manoharpur town near here, over the desecration of idols in a temple by unknown miscreants, with a day-long bandh being observed and a strong posse of security personnel guarding the area, police said today. The town is observing a bandh today called by various organisations protesting the incident, in which the priest had found the idols in the Santoshi Mata temple broken last evening, the police said.
The law and order situation is completely under control, superintendent of police, Jaipur (rural) Liyakat Ali said, adding however, no one was arrested so far. A large crowd had gathered outside the temple, situated about 100 km from here, as the word spread about the incident.
Additional force, rushed to maintain law and order and to disperse the mob last night, is still guarding the area, police said.
All the commercial establishments remained closed in the town, they said.
The district administration has already held a meeting of the local peace committee in which members of all communities have assured of their cooperation for maintaining communal harmony in the town, Ali said. Bureau Report
