New Delhi, May 18: The dude who romanced Malaika Arora in Bally Sagoo’s music video Gori nal ishq three years back, has come a long way. Jas Arora, who turned to Bollywood like most models, had his sporadic forays into films – notably as Kajol’s co-star in Dushman and a 10-second appearance in Monsoon Wedding. But if ever he had a reason to be on cloud nine, it’s now – he has bagged the Medicorp production of a 13-episode serial titled Achar.
“It’s a comedy about a Chinese girl falling in love with an Indian guy. It’s all about how, despite coming from different cultures, they still manage to be together,” says Jas. He was doing Shah Rukh Khan’s new home production, Chalte Chalte, when Lillete Dubey told him that the Singapore-based Medicorp were looking for the guy in Monsoon Wedding who played that almost unseen part in the end.
His last year’s release, Danger, flopped but Jas hopes Achar, slated for an October release, will make waves. “The best thing is the professionalism with which Achar was shot. They use three cameras at one time and that makes the life of an actor so much easier. It’s almost like a play, where every reaction is captured live.”
Achar is being shot like a three-hour film and then it’ll be broken into a serial format and shown on Channel Five in Singapore and the Far East. “They zeroed in on me after auditioning 300 applicants,” says Jas. With Singapore having a huge Indian population, Jas hopes Achar, directed by Kelvin Ha, will do well. Among his future projects is an untitled thriller to be shot in Montreal. “I’d love to do comedy, I have a knack for it,” says Jas. “But beyond acting, I haven’t given up modelling either. So, my hands are full.”
