Counting of votes in Gujarat begins
Counting of votes polled in three assembly constituencies that went to by-elections in Gujarat on February 21 began amid tight security at 8 am on Sunday morning and results are likely to be declared around noon.
Counting of votes polled in three assembly constituencies that went to by-elections in Gujarat on February 21 began amid tight security at 8 am on Sunday morning and results are likely to be declared around noon.
According to sources in the office of the chief electoral officer, counting of votes is likely to be completed in a few hours as Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) had been used in the by-election at all the polling booths.
In the Rajkot-II constituency, from where chief minister Narendra Modi is seeking election to the Vidhan Sabha, nearly 53 per cent voters had exercised their franchise while in the Mahuva-st and Sayajiganj constituencies this percentage was 50 and 32 per cent respectively. Polling was peaceful in all three constituencies.
Counting of votes began at the S V Virani multipurpose high school, Rajkot, M L Polytechnic College, Vadodara and the Dr S S Gandhi Engineering College, Surat, for the three constituencies, respectively.
