Shimla, Aug 18: The ruling BJP in Himachal Pradesh has decided to shelve for the time being the controversial issue of creation of new districts in the state. Party national general secretary Arun Jaitely said the decision was taken after a communication was received from the delimitation committee, headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Kuldeep Singh, that the matter should be put on hold till the process of delimitation as per the 1991 census was completed.
The issue was discussed with the chief minister and others during the political conference of the state BJP but any decision in this regard has to wait due to the "unforeseen development", Jaitely told reporters.
He said reorganisation of districts was part of the party manifesto in 1998 elections but no decision had been taken on how it should be done as there were more than one view on the issue. Bureau Report
