Baqubah (Iraq), Nov 03: One Iraqi civilian was killed and 15 wounded today in an explosion targeting a local government official here who escaped unharmed, hospital and police sources said.
The blast occurred as a convoy drove by carrying Deputy Governor Aqil Hamed of the Muaskar Saad region near the restive city of Baqubah, 60 kilometers northeast of the capital, police said.
One civilian was killed and 15 others, including a policeman and four civil defense workers, were wounded in the explosion, hospital sources said. Hamed said that the explosion seems to be a remote-controlled device and it failed to hit my car which was protected by a large truck that happened to pass by.
"This is the second such attempt against me. On October 23, a similar explosion also missed my convoy not too far from here," he said.
US forces who rushed to the site detained al-Jazeera television cameraman Salah Hassan, according to a correspondent Ali Yusef who was also threatened by a soldier who waved handcuffs in his face. Bureau Report
