Istanbul, Nov 22: Istanbul's police chief today
blamed "irresponsible" reporting by the Turkish media for the
second of two bomb attacks in the city over the past week,
saying police had been just an hour away from catching the
bombers.
"Irresponsible reporting in the name of a free press
has unfortunately caused 27 citizens to fall as martyrs,"
Celalettin Cerrah said at the funeral of two policemen killed
in massive bomb blasts Thursday at British sites in the city.
A total of 27 people were killed, including the top British diplomat in the city, in Thursday's attacks, which rocked the city less than a week after similar suicide truck bombings against two synagogues.
Turkish newspapers have identified the two suicide bombers involved in Thursday's attacks were the accomplices of those in the November 15 synagogue attacks that left another 25 dead.
