New Delhi, Nov 25: Campaigning for elimination of all forms of violence against the fair sex, a coalition of several women's groups will observe an 'international fortnight' here from today to promote awareness about the menace.
The campaign has got a major boost with India's cricket star Sachin Tendulkar endorsing the message of halting violence against women and calling for male and social responsibility in this direction, Kalpana Viswanath, coordinator of Jagori, one of the participating organisations, said.
The coalition of women's organisations comprises 50 groups across 11 states in India and associated with some international women's rights organisations also, she said.
Various programmes, including discussions, puppet shows, protest marches, film screenings aiming to promote awareness on violence against the fair sex will be organised during the fortnight long campaign, Viswanath said.
Noted social activist Indira Jaisingh, who is part of the campaign placed a list of demands including appointment of a national coordinator to monitor implementation of laws and policies on violence against women and enactment of a law to protect women against domestic violence.



As mark of protest against atrocities on women and to mark the begining of the campaign, a special candle light march will be held at India Gate lawns today, Viswanath added.
