Montreal, June 16: Juan Pablo Montoya admitted that his early mistake at the Canadian Grand Prix cost the Williams team the chance to claim their second straight victory. Montoya was running second behind Williams team-mate Ralf Schumacher when he spun at the end of lap two in Montreal. The error allowed Michael Schumacher to close in on his brother and ultimately seal a narrow win in the second round of pitstops, with Ralf second and Montoya third. Montoya, who won in Monaco two weeks ago, admitted: "I was too close to Ralf when I braked and I just braked too late and I spun. It was my fault completely. It's a bit disappointing because we had good race pace Ralf Schumacher "It is a shame that we had the potential to win the race and I threw it away." Williams technical director Patrick Head said: "Without that spin, I don't think Michael would have gotten by Juan," said Head. "And it would have been a tussle between Ralf and Juan at the end." Ralf Schumacher made the perfect start from pole position but Ferrari's slightly heavier fuel load allowed brother Michael to move ahead after the pitstops. "It's a bit disappointing because we had good race pace," said Ralf. "I don't know where he got the gap and on clear road I could have gone quicker. But in 2001 I won it like this so now its his turn." Ralf closed right in on his brother in the final laps but never really threatened to get past. "I was never close enough to even try it," he said. "Maybe some might think I didn't try it, but I couldn't."
