New Delhi, Nov 01: Pursuing its 'look east' policy, India is likely to sign three bilateral agreements with Myanmar during Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat's visit to the country. Shekhawat, who is leaving for Myanmar tomorrow on a four-day official trip, is the first Indian dignitary in 16 years to visit the country. Rajiv Gandhi visited Myanmar in 1987 as prime minister.

The two countries are likely to sign an agreement on visa exemption for official and diplomatic passport holders of the two nations.

Separate agreements for cultural and educational exchanges are also expected to be signed, external affairs ministry officials said.
Shekhawat is visiting Myanmar at the invitation of vice senior general Maung Aye, who is the vice chairman of the state peace development council of Myanmar.

During his visit the vice-president will call on the chairman of the council, Than Shwe, and other Myanmarese leaders.

India attaches great importance to Myanmar, the only Asean nation sharing borders with India.

The discussions are likely to cover the entire spectrum of bilateral relations including political, economic, trade and cultural issues, officials said.
