Srinagar, June 10: Making an assessment of the ongoing Operation Sarp Vinash, Army chief General N C Vij today said there has been no signs of abatement in cross border terrorism although the operation is going on as planned. The Army chief General N C Vij, who toured the forward areas, told reporters before leaving for New Delhi in a military helicopter: "Operation Sarp Vinash is going on exceedingly well and as planned, but there has been no let-up in cross border terrorism." The operation has as its focus the Hilkaka area of Poonch district where, straddled between thick forests and mountainous terrain of the Pir Panjal ranges, militants had set up extremely well-equipped camps. The Hilkaka area forms part of the transit route for militants between the Line of Control and Poonch and Doda districts. Security forces had stumbled into this area a few months back and launched the operation after adequate preparation and intelligence feed. Even helipads had been built to facilitate troop movement. About 100 hardcore militants have been killed till now in the operation launched last month amid deep secrecy. Only recently has the massive scale and magnitude of the operation come to notice. Militants holed up in Hilkaka area had equipped themselves with sophisticated arms and ammunition, rations and communication facilities equipped with modern technology. Bureau Report
