New Delhi, July 30: Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh, who has been chosen for the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay award this year, feels he was chosen for the honour because of successful conduct of free and fair polls in Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat. "Obviously. Otherwise nobody will be taking notice," the CEC told when asked whether the award has been given to him because of free and fair polls in these two states.
"It is a matter of honour for the commission. Good for the institution," said 64-year-old Lyngdoh, who would be demitting office in February next year after over two and a half years' stint in the Election Commission.
Recalling that he would be the second person in the commission after former CEC T N Seshan to receive the award, he said "I am sure that many more will be getting this award". Bureau Report
