Santravidasnagar, UP, Feb 20: The sleepy town of Beitpur today had a surprise visitor in Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who made a brief halt at a weaver's locality here to interact with the people. Ms Gandhi stopped at Beitpur, dominated by weavers, and decided to walk into the dusty interiors to meet the masses.
She inspected a handloom machine in one of the several houses. Later, the AICC president entered the house of Lalti Devi. The woman offered her 'Allo Sabzi', boiled rice, onion and chapatti to eat. Ms Gandhi bit a wholesome morsel, much to the delight of the villagers.
She also met two boys, aged 8 and 10 years, in the locality afflicted with polio.
Ms Gandhi is currently touring the eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh as part of her 'Kisan Chetna Yatra'. She is holding her 'roadshow' in the tribal belt of Chandauli and Mirzapur, an area infested by naxalites. Bureau Report
