New Delhi, March 06: Afghanistan today appeared to be reticent on the question of allowing the US to use its territory as a base in the event of a war against Iraq. The visiting Afghan President Hamid Karzai when asked by newsmen whether the US will be allowed to use Afghanistan as a base, said Afghanistan is far away from Iraq and that Washington may look for a nearer base. "Afghanistan is far away from Iraq and I think the US will look for a nearer base in case it goes ahead with war against Iraq," Karzai said. Karzai however reiterated Afghanistan's commitment to weed out terrorism globally. Bureau Report
