New Delhi, Oct 10: Veteran film maker from south K S
Sethumadhavan was paid a glowing tribute here today at the
34th International Film Festival of India.
Sethumadhavan, who has made films mostly based on
literary works, has 66 films in various languages to his
credit including hit Hindi films 'Julie' and 'Yehi Hai
Zindagi'.
"Sethumadhavan brought Malayalam cinema out of the
closet. The best works of great actors like Sathyam, Sharada
and Sheela are under him", noted film critic Thottam
Rajashekharan said.
It is time we paid attention to our own directors and aggresively market our films, director of film festivals Neelam Kapoor said.
In his modestly budgeted films, Sethumadhavan mixed socially relevant themes of his times with humour and cinematic vigour sending out a strong message of humanity, Rajashekharan said.
As part of the tribute, the veteran film makers films 'Oppol', 'Marupakkam' and 'Stri' are being screened at the IFFI.
Sethaumadhavan, who received the president's gold medal in 1991 for his Tamil film 'Marupakkam' started his career with Malayalam film 'Odayil Ninnu' in 1966.
