New Delhi, Oct 30: After nearly two years, the CBI
today filed chargesheet against suspended chief commissioner
of central excise Someshwar Mishra and owner of Flex
Industries Ashok Chaturvedi in connection with the alleged
bribe received by the official for showing favours to the
industrialist.
A CBI spokesman said the chargesheet was filed against
Mishra, Chaturvedi and another person Navin Francis John in
the special court at Patiala House.
The CBI slapped charges of 120-B of Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections of the prevention of corruption act against the three, the spokesman said.
Mishra and John were arrested on November seven when the latter was allegedly paying a bribe of Rs five lakh to the official for a favour. Another Rs five lakh was recovered by the CBI from the car belonging to the Flex group which was in the official parking lot of central excise department and which was to be delivered at the residence of Mishra.
Mishra, an Indian revenue service official of 1967 batch, had allegedly demanded the bribe amount of Rs 10 lakh from Chaturvedi for settling his case.
The CBI later arrested Chaturvedi for bribing the government servant.
The interrogation of Chaturvedi also led to the exit in disgrace of Prabhat Kumar as governor of Jharkhand after the CBI found that the industrialist had picked the tabs for some parties hosted by the bureaucrat.
