Jammu, Nov 06: Pakistani troops today continued mortar shelling and small arms firing targeting border fencing for the fifth consecutive day today along Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir, even as 198 kilometers of border line with the neighbouring country has been fenced so far, official sources said.
Using heavy and medium weaponry, Pak troops fired mortar
bombs and opened small arms firing along line of control in
Noushera, Jangard, Bhawani, Kalsian, Kalaal, Kerni, Balakote,
Krishanagati, Bhimber Gali, Balnoie and Laam areas in Rajouri
and Poonch sectors on 5th day today, the sources told pti.
However, no casualties were caused in the shelling, they said.
"The firing and shelling was on intermittently. But troops braving the shelling are engaged in the fencing work without any fear," the sources said and added that entire borderline along LoC will be completed by March 2004.
Pak has fired 120 to 150 mortar shells and fired 1000 to 1200 rounds so far, the sources said, adding the firing by Pakistani troops is aimed at stalling fencing work.
Similarly, along International Border (IB) in Kathua and Jammu sectors, 90 kilometers have been fenced and floodlighted despite daily firing from Pak rangers, they said.
Pak rangers also fired with small arms on Border Out Posts (BOPs) and fencing areas in RS Pura, Samba, Ramgarh, Hiranagar and Akhnoor areas along international border since yesterday, the sources said.
A total of 198 km of LoC and IB have been completely fenced, they said. Bureau Report
