England, June 06: Leeds United are close to sealing a deal to sign Liverpool's out-of-contract midfield man Patrik Berger. Berger is available on a free transfer and is on the brink of deciding his next move. BBC Sport understands Berger favours a move to Elland Road if a package can be agreed with boss Peter Reid. Harry Redknapp's Premiership newcomers Portsmouth and Manchester City have also shown an interest in the former Czech Republic international. But Reid is in pole position to clinch a deal, and has confirmed his interest in Berger. Berger's Anfield contract expires on 30 June, and Leeds see Berger as a potential replacement for Harry Kewell if he refuses a new contract. Reid said: "I'm looking at players at the moment and Berger is one of those players. "I think he's a good footballer who was obviously injured and didn't play in many games for Liverpool towards the end, but he's certainly one I'm looking at".
