A man hurled a Molotov cocktail outside the US embassy in Tokyo late Thursday, causing the explosive to burst into flames, police said. There were no injuries.
Security guards immediately apprehended the man, who had been distributing leaflets just before throwing the petrol bomb onto the street outside the embassy, said a National Police Agency official on condition of anonymity.
It not immediately clear who the man was or why he threw the bomb. Officials have increased security at the US embassy since the terror attacks against the United States.
Kyodo News Agency reported that the man was in his 50s and wearing a suit.

No other details were immediately available.
