was being observed in Rishikesh today to protest against
lathicharge on Congress workers.
A group of NSUI workers also burnt an effigy of Chief Minister N D Tiwari in Rishikesh.
The call for bandh was given by the ruling Congress in protest against the lathicharge against party workers, who were demonstrating during a function of VHP general secretary Praveen Togadia yesterday Meanwhile, Congress general secretary Dhirendra Pratap sought a public apology from the chief minister against 'unwarranted' lathicharge on party workers.
He also called for suspension of all those police officials, who were responsible for the lathicharge and urged party president Sonia Gandhi to take note of the situation emanating after yesterday's incident. "It is ironical that Congress workers are getting scolding in a state ruled by Congress itself," he said.
