Digvijay appeals to PM to control Hindu organisations

Bhopal, June 06: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh today asked Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to control various Hindu organisations that were trying to incite communalism on the Bhojshala issue in the state.
Singh, in a letter to the Prime Minister, said various organisations, led by BJP, and including the RSS and Bajrang Dal, have been agitating about the Bhojshala, which was disturbing communal harmony in Madhya Pradesh.
"It is a matter of concern that those holding important posts at the Central ministry and BJP are trying to pose a danger to peace in the state," he said.
In this connection, he pointed out that the feelings of Muslims were hurt by the manner in which Union Minister of State for Culture Bhavanaben Chikhalya, and former Union Minister Uma Bharti had marched in a procession to Bhojshala on June three.
Chikhalya had done many things and also made some statements to deliberately spoil peace in Dhar where Bhojshala and Kamaal Maula mosque are located, he said adding "all this appeared to be part of a well-thought conspiracy."
Singh said the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had, in an affidavit filed in a court in January 1998, said no expert could say with authority that the idol taken from Bhojshala was indeed that of Goddess Saraswati.
At a time when ASI could not say with authority what the nature of the idol in the British museum was, how could the minister in-charge of ASI say so about it, Singh asked.
