Agartala, Aug 10: One National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militant was killed and a CRPF jawan injured in an encounter in West Tripura district today, even as security all over the state has been beefed up in view of the different insurgent outfits of the north east giving a boycott call of the Independence Day. A group of NLFT insurgents opened fire and hurled grenade at a CRPF patrol at Promodnagar. The CRPF jawans also retaliated and a gun battle lasted for about 15 minutes but the ultras managed to escape taking advantage of the forest cover.
A CRPF jawan sustained injuries from splinters of the grenade and was admitted to GB Hospital here.
During search operation bullet riddled body of a nlft ultra was recovered from the deep jungle, they said. In another incident, insurgents of All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) propelled a rocket at a CRPF camp at Mandai of the same district last night but it missed the target and partly damaged the wall of the camp.
The jawans also opened fire in retaliation but there was no casualty.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the state in view of the boycott call of the Independence Day by different insurgent outfits of the North East. Official sources said all the police stations and border outposts of the state were alerted and police and paramilitary deployed in sensitive areas. Bureau Report
