Deployment of security men was beefed up throughout the national capital and random checking of vehicles intensified considering intelligence reports of possible militant strikes, including suicide attacks, to disrupt the celebrations.
The Red Fort, where Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will unfurl the national tricolor and address the nation, Rajghat, where he will pay tributes, and the Rashtrapati Bhawan, where President K R Narayanan will host `at home` in the evening, have been made out of bounds for public.
