New Delhi, Dec 07: In a swift operation, Uttar Pradesh police today shot dead a person, wanted in several cases of abduction and extortion, in an encounter in Ghaziabad district near here minutes after he phoned a Delhi-based businessman asking a ransom and threatening to kill him if his demand was not met.
Jitender Bhuri, wanted for several cases in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Uttaranchal, was gunned down along with his suspected accomplice in the 15-minute encounter, senior Superintendent of Police (Ghaziabad) Chander Prakash told a news agency.
Bhuri's accomplice is yet to be identified, he said, adding two pistols and several live bullets were recovered from their possession.
Prakash said Bhuri called up the businessman at around 5 PM demanding extortion and issuing threats to him.
The businessman immediately informed the Delhi Police and up police and the origin of the call was traced to a PCO booth in Ghaziabad's Kaushambi area on the periphery of Delhi.


In all, six rounds of fire were traded between the two sides, Prakash said adding "this all happened in 15 minutes."
