Dec 09: Even after Boom, Katrina Kaif’s debut vehicle, bombed at the box office, the Kashmiri-English beauty is upbeat. “I have no regrets. I came to Mumbai as I love the energy of the city. I simply see Boom as a stepping stone,” she says.
Kaif, who has walked the ramp at The London Fashion Week and done prestigious campaigns for UK designer Arcadius, is trying to break free from the pretty girl image. She hopes to work with director Raj Kumar Santoshi one day.

From backing out of a NIFD show in Chandigarh, to violating their contract, to being linked with Bollywood’s bad boy Salman Khan, Kaif has figured in many a controversy. “All these are rumours. I did nothing wrong at NIFD and I stand by it,” says the Rage Apparel model for 2003.
The five feet nine inches tall and 56-kg light Kaif admits that her Hindi is not as good as it should be for a Bollywood actor. But she is working on it, as well as taking dance lessons. “My modelling journey began by chance while at school in Hawaii. Since off-beat cinema doesn’t interest me, I’ve signed two more commercial films,” says Kaif.
When she is not shooting, Kaif likes to ride, swim and spend time with her linguist English mother. “I hardly get any time off, but I certainly miss home and my sisters. I guess you have to pay the price for fame,” she philosophises.
