New Delhi, Aug 03: As the Independence Day draws nearer, Delhi Police and other security agencies have been alerted to the possibility of a three-member Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) suicide squad having reached the capital to cause trouble during the celebrations.
In view of the inputs from Jammu and Kashmir, police and other security agencies have started scouring the city to nab the terrorists before they strike, police sources said here today.
The inputs from Jammu and Kashmir said that LeT planned to carry out subversive actions in Delhi or Gujarat around the Independence Day, they said, noting that vital installations and "some soft" targets were likely to be on the hit-list. Apprehension has been expressed that the three-member squad might have already reached Delhi and might be lying low before carrying out a strike, the sources said.
Following this, delhi police and intelligence agencies have mounted surveillance across the capital and are carrying out random searches at hotels, lodges, guest houses and other suspected places, they said.
A watch is also being kept on the areas adjoining Delhi, particularly in view of reports that terrorists have recently resorted to taking shelter in various areas of Uttar Pradesh nearby the national capital to help them strike here and flee easily. Bureau Report
