New Delhi, May 01: Smokers beware! Beginning today smoking is banned in trains and railway premises including Railways Ministry here. Violaters would have to shell out a fine of Rs 200, an official release said today. The Railways Ministry has issued orders banning smoking in trains and railway premises under the cigarettes and other tobacco products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act 2003. Zonal Railways, production units and public sector undertakings under the Railways Ministry have been directed to ban smoking strictly, the release said. The punishment for smoking in Railway premises is a fine of Rs 200 which is compoundable and subject to summary trial in accordance with the procedure under the code of criminal procedure 1973.
