Jaipur, May 14: Renowned lawyer Nirmal Chandra Jain was today sworn in as the 14th governor of Rajasthan. He was administered the oath of office by Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Anil Dev Singh at a function held at the Raj Bhavan lawns here.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, his cabinet colleagues, leaders of political parties and senior officers were among those present on the occasion. Also present were about 150 personal guests of Jain from Jabalpur and other places in his home state of Madhya Pradesh.

Former member of the eleventh Finance Commission, 74-year-old Jain was advocate general of Madhya Pradesh during 1990-92, when Sunderlal Patwa was the Chief Minister. He is also a former member of the Lok Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. Jain, a keen sports enthusiast and lover of fine arts, replaces Justice (Retd) Anshuman Singh, whose term expired recently.
