Karnataka, Aug 20: Defence Minister George Fernandes today maintained that the CVC report on defence deals would not be made public but said it could be done if the government or the Parliament decided on making all such future reports public.
"I will not consider making it (CVC report) public unless there is going to be a decision...Which government, for that matter, Parliament, takes that, in future all reports must be made public. It is not a personal decision," he told reporters on the sidelines of a function at Bharat Earth Movers Ltd here.
Reiterating that the CVC report has been secret all these years, he indicated that changes were needed to be made in the official secrets act if any report had to be made public. Fernandes said there was no embarrassment for anybody because of the report.
Asked whether yesterday's suicide attack on the UN mission in Baghdad would make India change its stand on sending troops to Iraq, he maintained that India would not send troops to Iraq and said, "There has not been any development which makes us send troops."
Fernandes said that he would meet Savita Gadgil of the Abhijit foundation later this week to discuss her request for a maintenance audit of MiG squadrons in the Indian Air Force. Bureau Report
