New Delhi, Oct 03: CBI's efforts to get Aftab Ansari deported from Dubai also enabled the agency to lay hands on the details of Pakistani passport of underworld don Abu Salem, which were handed over to Interpol for action.

The sources said details were on passed to the Interpol for further action as the CBI team had gathered enough proofs that Salem was in Lisbon.
The sources claimed that Portuguese authorities had mounted surveillance on Salem from March onwards and in April he virtually managed to give the slip to the authorities as he was planning to visit Canada.
Since there was no mission of Canada in Portugal, Salem decided to visit Paris to seek a visa on his Portuguese passport.

After being supplied with the details of Pakistani passport, Portugal sought of Salem's finger-prints, which the CBI managed to get from Bhopal, where he had procured another fake passport.

The finger-prints were matched and in June, Portugal decided to arrest Salem. However, on request from Interpol, the arrest was delayed as Monica Bedi was away in the US.
