New Delhi, Nov 17: G K Vasan was today appointed president of the faction-ridden Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, ending a long suspense and an unusual arrangement of having a working president in a state unit. A Rajya Sabha member and son of the late G K Moopanar, Vasan has been appointed following the resignation of incumbent president S Balakrishnan and working president E V K S Elangovan, AICC General Secretary in charge of Tamil Nadu, Kamal Nath said in a statement.
Vasan, who had taken over leadership of Tamil Maanila Congress after his father's death, merged his party with the Congress over a year ago.
