Dehra Dun, Oct 19: Only eight per cent of the total hydro power generation capacity could be tapped so far in Uttaranchal, A B Giri, Chairman of State Jal Vidyut Nigam has said. Addressing a seminar on scope of hydel power development in Uttaranchal here yesterday, Giri said in the long run, hydro power translates into cheaper electricity for the end consumer.
He said that out of an estimated hydel power potential of 20,000 mw in Uttaranchal, only eight per cent has been tapped so far but the state government is committed to make Uttaranchal the future power house of India.
