New Delhi, July 29: Ministry of Railways has initiated the process to amend the railway claims tribunal act to expedite settlement of accident claims cases within eleven months as compared to the earlier time span of two to three years. Settlement of goods claims which could take eight to ten years earlier now takes on an average two years, an official press release said today.

In order to ensure speedy disposal of cases, it said through recent special initiatives, Indian Railways has brought down the number of pending cases of train accidents claims to 551. Similarly, as many as 2.142 lakh cases relating to goods claims were decided during the last 13 years.

It said that the registrar of the Railways Cliams Tribunal (RCT) are now made responsible to ensure that payments of compensation award are made expeditiously to the claimants by the railway administration.
Railways ensure that all necessary documents and affidavits are filed before RCT without delay, the release said adding that after the decree has been passed copy of judgement is obtained and payment made at the earliest.
