New Delhi, May 14: Congratulating Congress president Sonia Gandhi on her victory in the Lok Sabha elections, Bangladesh Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has expressed confidence that a politically and economically stronger South Asia can be built by strengthening regional cooperation through the SAARC process. Extending her "heartiest greetings and warmest congratulations" to Gandhi on the remarkable achievement of her party emerging as the single largest in the Lok Sabha elections, Zia said, "It is indeed a clear testimony to your dynamic and wise leadership and the trust and confidence the people of India repose on you and your party."
In a message to the congress president, Zia, who is also chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, expressed confidence that "our two parties, which are deeply committed to the democratic beliefs, principles, and practices, can work together and in close cooperation to further strengthen the existing excellent neighbourly bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India".
She said, "We can build a politically and economically stronger South Asia by strengthening regional cooperation through the SAARC process".
