Cancun, Sept 15: The World Trade Organisation has announced it would hold another conference by December 15, following the collapse of its Cancun ministerial meeting, which it termed a "setback". "We ask the chairman of the General Council ... To convene a meeting of the General Council at senior officials level no later than December 15, 2003 to take action necessary at that stage to enable us to move towards a successful and timely conclusion of the negotiations," the 146 ministers gathered here said in a statement yesterday. Following the collapse of the Cancun conference, the statement said "more work needs to be one in some key areas" to fulfil the agenda set out in Doha in November 2001, when ministers adopted a roadmap for trade liberalization starting in 2005. "Notwithstanding this setback, we reaffirm all our Doha declarations and decisions," the ministers said, adding that they instructed officials "to continue working on outstanding issues with a renewed sense of urgency and purpose".
