New Delhi, Aug 17: Apparently upset over the Election Commission's decision not to hold assembly polls in Gujarat for the time being, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today said the BJP will win hands down whenever elections are held in the state even as he stoutly defended chief minister Narendra Modi. "I know Gujarat. I am from Gujarat. They (EC) may hold elections whenever they like but we will win hands down," Advani said to thunderous applause and aggressive slogan-shouting from party cadres.

He was addressing a day-long political conference of the Delhi unit of the party.
Taking exception to opposition's constant attack on Modi, he said the Gujarat chief minister was rated the second most popular person in the country in a survey.
"He (Modi) is an elected chief minister, the second most popular person in the country. India's stature does not grow by attacking him," Advani said.
Upsetting BJP'S plan for early polls in Gujarat, the Election Commission had yesterday unanimously decided to frame a schedule for assembly elections in November-December, an indication that it could be held by year-end. Bureau Report
