Bhopal, Nov 09: Communist Party of India today announced 18 candidates for December one assembly poll in Madhya Pradesh fielding former MLA Kapurchand Dhuwara against BJP's firebrand Uma Bharti but none against Chief Minister Digvijay Singh. Releasing the list here, CPI's state unit secretary Mahendra Vajpayee told reporters the party is expected to release one or two more candidates shortly.
To a question whether CPI would put up any nominee against Digvijay Singh from Raghogarh constituency in Guna district, Vajpayee replied 'wait and see'.
CPI would fully support CPI-M candidates in nine assembly constituencies in the state, he said.
Of the 18 candidates announced by the party, Bishwambar Narayan Pandey would contest from two seats - Gurh and Satna, while Ramcharan Patel has been pitted against state assembly speaker and senior Congress leader Srinivas Tiwari from Mangaw an constituency in Rewa district.
CPI has fielded Anil Tiwari against Samajwadi Party heavyweight Bhaiyairaja from Pawai seat in Panna.
