Thiruvananthapuram, June 17: Kerala government would ensure all self-financing professional colleges in the state adhere to its policy that admissions should be on the basis of 50 per cent each for management and merit quota, Chief Minister A K Atnony said in the state assembly today. The government was committed to implement its policy and its stand on the issue was firm, he said while intervening during a call attention motion moved by Kodiyari Balakrishnan (CPI-M) to the situation that has arisen consequent to the fee hike in education sector.

Antony said with the new policy initiative of the UDFgovernment nearly 400 self-financing colleges had come up in the state and out of this only two medical colleges had challenged the government decision." All other managements have agreed to follow the government policy," he said. Government had also moved the Supreme Court against the two medical college managements which got a favourable order from the high court in the matter, he said.

Referring to the fee structure in professional colleges, he said the annual fees was rs.4,000 in government engineering colleges and Rs 36,000 in self-financing colleges.
