Madhubani, May 08: Over 50 CPI supporters have gone on an indefinite hunger strike in Jhanjharpur sub-jail here in protest against the alleged beating up of undertrials by the jail security staff and have demanded the suspension of the involved persons, official sources said today. The strike was launched by the CPI activists last night to protest the beating of two of their colleagues by the security staff while controlling the fight among two groups of inmates on Tuesday, superintendent of police of Jhahnjharpur sub-jail, Arvind Kumar Sinha said. The two CPI supporters, Vijay Kumar Das and Yognath Mandal, received lathi blows during the incident. Jail officials are holding talks with the striking prisoners to end the protest, he said. Around 235 prisoners are currently lodged in the sub-jail against a capacity of 120.
