Islamabad, Feb 12: The International Cricket Council is in in the process of appointing secret agents to monitor the Indo-Pak series to track down match-fixers, according to a Pak newspaper report. Besides hiring sleuths, the ICC's Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) will take steps to combat match fixing during the series, said the report.
"Despite a number of steps taken by the ICC, no one can remove match-fixing totally; and still many bookies are involved in the million dollars game," a source was quoted, as saying. According to the daily, some of the bookies have already formatted a strong international network in anticipation of the tour. The bookmakers and suspected match-fixers have extended their network from Asia to Europe, Africa and USA, the paper further said, quoting unnamed sources.
