Himachal BJP accuses govt of `chit` recruitment
Shimla, Dec 09: Himachal Pradesh BJP today accused the Virbhadra Singh government of reverting to the `old practice` of making recruitments in government jobs through `chits` and `recommendation letters` to various departments.

Party spokesman Randhir Sharma said in a press conference
here that besides the Chief Minister's office, Irrigation
and Public Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur and Health
Minister Chandresh Kumari also sent letters to concerned
departments for giving government jobs to the bearers.
Sharma also displayed a letter signed by deputy secretary to the Chief Minister asking the vice chancellor to appoint one Yashwant Singh Hartta as research investigator at the population research centre of the Himachal Pradesh University.
One Lekh Ram was also given a letter for being posted as a security guard in the university on the request of a congress functionary, Sharma said adding that the cm's office even went to the extent of recommending the transfer of one Gulabo Devi, a junior assistant in the university to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kullu.
He accused the government of treating the university as a government department that was eroding its autonomy.
He claimed that according to enquiries ordered by the previous BJP government more than 4000 appointments were found to have been made on chits by the Singh government between 1994-98 in violation of norms and procedures.
