Jammu, Mar 11: To save the world-famous Dal Lake in Kashmir from further degradation, the state government has issued a notification banning all construction activity within 200 sq feet around the lake. The ban was imposed by Jammu and Kashmir High Court to prevent encroachments, the state minister for housing, urban development and tourism Ghulam Hassan Mir said in the state assembly today.
The notified area, in which construction activity is banned spreads over hundreds of acres along the roadside from Gupthganga to Shalimar Bagh stand.
The minister, however, clarified that agriculture and horticulture activities could be carried on the land falling within the above range.
