Bangalore, Nov 02: Seeking to take on global players, software major Infosys Technologies plans to transform itself into a solutions provider from being a pure play IT services firm. "What is happening is from a services focus, this is what we have today. We are moving to the solutions mindset. It (solutions) allows us to compete with some of the established companies, it allows us to work with the CIO and all the way to other business leaders," Infosys co-founder and Director S Gopalakrishnan told PTI here in an interview.

The strategy Infosys aims to adopt is to break into the big mould by creating independent business units focused on specific industry verticals, in which he said, the Nasdaq-listed firm has found initial success in the retail and automotive and aerospace units.
"These units have actually piloted the solutions concept and understanding the business issues. It is an attractive option, because the structure should in some way support our strategic objectives", Gopalakrishnan, who is also the chief operating officer, said.
"And definitely, one of the objectives is to increase the rates and profitability by doing this," he added. Bureau Report
