Terry Tomalin, one of the actress' eight siblings, worked as outdoors editor for Florida newspaper the Tampa Bay Times, and used his frequent travels as inspiration for his work.

According to the publication, Tomalin was at an aquatic center in St Petersburg, Florida, for a lifeguarding class with his son when he collapsed. He then failed to regain consciousness.

Tomalin is survived by his wife Kanika and their children, 14-year-old Kai and 12-year-old Nia.

Kanika, who works as deputy mayor in St Petersburg, said, "We are devastated. He loved us. He loved his family so much, and we loved him."

Tomalin was a devoted father and served as scout leader of his son Kai's Boy Scout troop. He also frequently travelled with his children, who he considered his greatest travel companions.
