Guwahati, Nov 05: A three-member ‘fact finding independent team’ today alleged there were large scale human rights violations in Arunachal Pradesh with the under trial prisoners (UTP) having no jail accommodation and hit by serious epidemics. The three-member team comprising Satish Saberwal, former professor of JNU, journalists Sabita Goswami and Vinod K Jose, alleged that there were no jails in the state and virtually the district administration in particularly Tirap and Changland districts had broken down.
"The hundreds of UTPs are kept in inhuman condition and are suffering from tuberculosis and other skin ailments as they are put in overcrowded lock up without proper food and clothing", they told reporters here after visiting the state recently.
The team, which claimed to have visited the state under an invitation from the Tirap Changland human rights organisation, said they would file a detailed report and submit it to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
More than 100 children have died in Laju of Tirap district from an undiagnosed epidemic and there were not doctors to attend them.
