Thiruvananathapuram, Nov 12: State Transport Department buses remained off the roads in Kerala since midnight following a 24-hour strike call by major trade unions over 'route privatisation' . Reports from across the state said the mobility of people in areas covered by 'nationalised routes were hit, but the strike had minimal impact on normal life in other places'.
Unions affiliated to major central trade unions including Intuc, Citu, AITUC and BMS have joined hands for the strike.
Kerala State Road Transport Corporation had suspended long-distance buses early last night, while the shuttle and city services came to a halt from midnight, KSRTC sources said.
The striking workers also took out a march in major towns in the state.
Other demands of the workers include sanctioning of DA to the staff and reversal of move to close down bus depots.
